Roman ring with ancient hard stone intaglio featuring a cirneco dell'etna dog. Carving depicts the ancient coursing hound of Sicily with a captured rabbit. Nicollo carving, 3rd - 4th century. Made in high carat gold.
The pitting on the gold indicate the ring was buried underground for a long period of time. The shank is slightly out of shape but still wearable.
